Local Holden dealer to live on with new partner
1 min read

GENERAL Motor’s (GM) decision to retire the Holden brand has left local car dealerships contemplating their next move as the iconic brand ceases to exist next year.

Holden will continue to honour existing warranties and guarantees, all free scheduled servicing offers, provide ongoing call centre support and administer any safety recalls as required.

Owners will also be able to access Holden-certified service, repair and spare parts for the next 10 years.

According to a GM statement on Monday, the company is working with Holden dealerships on timing to cease sales of new vehicles, as well as offering the transition of dealerships to authorised service outlets.

It leaves Holden dealerships, such as Gawler’s Steinborner, with the choice of finding a new automotive brand to partner with, or to change its operations to that of a Holden-authorised service outlet.

In the wake of GM’s announcement, Steinborner managing director David Reynolds said the Gawler dealership would continue as usual until it found a new brand partner.

“It’s a very sad day for the entire Holden family, including former manufacturing staff and our own dealership staff,” he said.

“Steinborner Automotive Group comprises Holden, Ford, Mitsubishi and Hyundai operations in Gawler, Nuriootpa and Clare.

“Our used car operations are what the Steinborner brand is famous for and are substantial.

“Our Gawler operation will continue to offer quality used cars as well as servicing vehicles until a new automotive brand is introduced.”
