Local businesses jump on board
2 min read

AFTER its official launch 10 days ago, Gawler Carnival of Cups (GCOC) is seeking support from businesses in the district.

GCOC organisers want to enhance and engage the community and this will be achieved by staging a range of racing and non-racing activities during the 10-day carnival from October 15 to 24 and encouraging local businesses to get on board.

GCOC has already signed up TAB and the Ahrens Group as naming-rights partner and major partner respectively.

But carnival director of marketing and sponsorship Aaron Bain said there were plenty of opportunities for other businesses to throw their support behind the inaugural Carnival.

They will receive benefits from tickets to the gala dinner and VIP area at Cup race days, to GCOC merchandise, signage and advertising in the official event program and three-race day programs. Carnival gold sponsors will also be able to name a greyhound, harness or thoroughbred race.

“We are mindful that many businesses in and around Gawler already do a lot to support the local community, so we have created several sponsor and supporter categories to ensure that everyone can get involved,” Mr Bain said.

“As well as carnival gold and carnival silver sponsorships, we have a community supporter level which is affordable and flexible and allows business owners to contribute in-kind goods and services as well as cash.”

Every business that contributes $500 or more in cash or in-kind goods and services will have the opportunity to advertise a discount or special offer in the GCOC official event program.

Several local businesses have already jumped on board, including Sanders Fodder at Gawler South.

Owners and local racing supporters Jane and Matthew Sanders said with all three codes represented in Gawler, it made sense to stage a racing carnival in the town.

“One of the main things that appealed to us about GCOC was that we are getting exposure across all three codes,” Jane said.

“It’s a very efficient way to organise sponsorship because we are only dealing with one person, but we will reach more people from different ages, backgrounds and economic situations.”
