Lions tame Tigers in thriller

SOUTH Gawler has ended Gawler Central’s perfect start to the Barossa, Light & Gawler reserves football season with a four-point victory on Saturday.

The Lions led at every break, including by 13 points at halftime, to hold off the Tigers. Dave Aldred came in for his first game of the year and booted six snags, while Rhys Sutton kicked two.

For Central, Adam Byster slotted three, while Paul Bova and Kyle Hummell nailed two each.

Elsewhere, Kapunda destroyed Freeling by 155 points.

Trae Gant kicked four goals, while Bailey Jones, Conor White, Sam McKinnon and Hayden Robinson each booted three.

The Bombers’ defence was also impressive as it held the Legs scoreless for the match.

Meanwhile on Anzac Day, Angaston toppled Nuriootpa by 46 points.

Alex Brackstone kicked four majors for the Panthers, while Zac Heintze-Unger was best on ground.

Finally, Tanunda crushed Barossa District by 98 points.

Stuart Gregory kicked five majors, while Ben Britton chipped in with three.

For the Bulldogs, Adam Spencer was best on ground.

Under 17

South Gawler came back from a seven-point half-time deficit to defeat Gawler Central by 20 points.

Tom Clements was tremendous with four majors, while Jaden Gurney was best afield.

Ross Grady was impressive for the Tigers with three goals, and Bailey Puvogel kicked two.

Elsewhere, Freeling defeated Kapunda by 25 points.

Ronan Erskine was dangerous in front of goal and kicked four majors.

Meanwhile, Nuriootpa crushed Angaston by 64 points on Anzac Day.

Ben Roennfeldt kicked three goals, but Jack Henke was best on ground for the Tigers.

For Angaston, Myles Harvey was its best.

Finally, Tanunda easily accounted for Barossa District by 74 points.

The Magpies led by 56 points at half-time and never looked back.

Shay Linke was sensational with five majors, and Flynn Pratt was best on ground for the Dogs.

Under 15

South Gawler produced a stellar second half to overcome Gawler Central by 35 points.

Lochlan Hodge and Lochie Riggs kicked three each for the Lions.

Elsewhere, Kapunda belted Freeling by 95 points.

Riley Menzel and Trent Reynolds had a day out, kicking bags of five goals each.

Tom Shepley and Harry Bryan kicked the two goals for the Legs.

Meanwhile, Nuriootpa toppled Angaston by 53 points on Anzac Day.

Tom Giles was terrific with three goals, while for the Panthers Malakye Kohlhagen kicked all three of his side’s goals.

Finally, Barossa District defeated Tanunda by 39 points.

Austin McDonald was sensational in his first game of the year, kicking three goals and earning best on ground honours.
