SOUTH Gawler has blown Freeling out of the water by 71 goals in Barossa, Light & Gawler senior one netball on Saturday.
The Lions were unforgiving from the get-go, and stormed to a 24-4 lead at quarter-time.
The Redlegs got some momentum in the second stanza, scoring 10 goals, however South added another 19 to its tally.
The second half was one-sided in favour of the Lions, as they scored 51 goals to nine to walk out 94-23 victors.
South Gawler’s injured player-coach, Bec Brading, was delighted with her side’s consistency across four quarters.
“It was good, we’d been hearing about everyone’s scores against Freeling and we said we’d go out and treat them like a Barossa or Kapunda” she said.
“We went out there strongly and started really well.
“We made sure we didn’t rush it, did everything that came normal for us, and wanted to do well.”
Brading said injuries to players, including herself, gave her the chance to experiment with different combinations.
“It gave us an opportunity to look at our back-up in defence,” she said.
“Maddie Bush had a run there, Emma Dekort had a game in wing attack.
“We, unfortunately, did lose Jess Platten to an Achilles injury early in the third.
“Even though she came off, we were still able to continue scoring a minimum of 20 goals each quarter.
“We made a goal at the start of the game to try and keep them below five goals each quarter, and for us to score above 16.
“It was really good to get a good win and use that as a confidence booster.”
The Lions will enjoy the bye this week, while Freeling faces Tanunda, with both sides eager to get a victory.
