WILLASTON found itself in a strong position to nab a road win at Gawler Central in Barossa and Light Cricket Association A1-reserves action after bowling out the hosts for 146, but the inability to bat out the day’s final overs left the door wide open.
The Tiger bowlers were on top of their games, bowling 22 maidens from 63 overs, highlighted by the efforts of Hayden Moss (4/68, eight maidens from 23 overs) and Trent Payne (3/3, six maidens from eight overs).
With nine overs to survive, it was the Lions’ bowlers’ turn to wreak havoc with Josh Lourens, Luke King and Alistair Crothers taking wickets to reach stumps at 3/30.
Lyndoch made far better use of the remaining daylight in its away fixture at league-leading Light Pass, with the former racing to 2/104 after dismissing the latter for 176.
The home side’s best with the ball were the combination of George Clarridge (4/37, five maidens from 13 overs) and Matthew Robinson (4/37, three maidens from 11.3 overs), while Bailey Nitschke (58) almost double his best Light Pass teammate.
With more than 20 overs remaining in the day, Lyndoch batted with a purpose despite losing early wickets to sit at 2/20.
The partnership of Trent Burge (50 not-out) and Matthew Robinson (28 not-out) steadied the ship until stumps, sitting in pole position for day two.
Second-placed Greenock have a real chase on its hands this week after Eudunda-Robertstown rolled into town and put up a very defendable 215 after a number of contributions.
John Mosey (44) and opener Michael Zerner (37) were two of six visiting batsman who all scored at least 19 runs as almost everybody pulled their weight, despite the best efforts of Benjamin Roennfeldt (5/54, six maidens from 22 overs).
Greenock will start its chase this week on 0/12 after seeing out the last four overs.
Kapunda won the toss in its matchup with Angaston and decided to have a bat on its home deck, setting a target of 174 with five batsmen scoring between 23 and 41.
For the Blues, the three-headed monster of Bradley Sibley (4/40), Thomas Jackaman (3/34) and Luke Doecke (3/41) combined to take all 10 wickets in 68.2 overs.
Angaston will be kicking itself after losing opener Simon Kurtz for a duck before stumps, but have a strong chance on day two starting at 1/4.
In A2, Gawler Central opener Jake Billing was removed for a heartbreaking 99 from 115 deliveries, but he and Jack Hamilton (80 from 65 deliveries) helped set a big total of 7/283 for Truro to chase this Saturday.
In A3, Angaston number-five Simon Koch beat his previous season-high by 98 runs with a dominant 138 from 103 deliveries, including eight sixes, as the Blues put up an eye-watering 312 in 57 overs.
Greenock will begin day two’s play at 0/20 and will need to play with a foot on the accelerator.
