Labor listening to locals
1 min read

LOCALS had the opportunity to have their say and raise state and community matters with Labor party leaders on Friday at One Tree Hill.
SA Labor leader Peter Malinauskas and Federal Member for Spence Nick Champion hosted a listening post outside the One Tree Hill Institute from 10am to 11am to hear residents’ concerns and ideas.
Topics of conversation included the end of Holden, alleged long-term employment holes in the region, hospital ramping and tourism.
On Friday morning, Opposition leader Anthony Albanese broke news the Labor Party would aim to make Australia a net zero carbon emitter by 2050.
It would see Australia balance the emissions it puts into the atmosphere with those it takes out.
Mr Malinauskas said the plan would provide long-term employment opportunities in South Australia, including in the north.
“South Australia has been a leader in a transition to cheaper energy and the
challenge is making sure we get the jobs out of that that are associated with it,” he said.
“We do see solar panels produced in manufacturing plants in the northern
suburbs of Adelaide. We have seen the creation of the big battery.
“We know that renewable technology as it becomes more advanced and more sophisticated has the capacity to be produced in Australia and to provide work and we need to be making
sure we can do everything we can in government policy to be careful that we get these jobs here, rather than overseas.”
Mr Champion also visited the Craigmore Village Shopping Centre on Friday.
