Kroemer’s upgrade comes full circle
1 min read

THOSE instrumental in delivering the new Kroemer's Crossing gathered at the Tanunda site on Friday, to declare it officially complete.

Member for Schubert Stephan Knoll said the much-anticipated, $6 million, upgrade would now deliver improved safety for all road users at the “notorious” intersection, as well as greater efficiencies for local industries.

"Previously, a small section of Barossa Valley Way, south of Diagonal Road, was restricted to semitrailers due to safety concerns and insufficient width required for heavy vehicle turn paths," he said.

"Not only has this upgrade delivered an important upgrade for the local community and businesses, it now enables access for B-Double vehicles (up to 26 metres) to Pernod Ricard's Richmond Grove Winery.

"This is a significant boost for the winery, enabling them to increase capacity."

Barossa Mayor Bim Lange said he thanked the State and Federal Governments for recognising the need for this infrastructure and investing in a long-term solution for the region.

"This precinct carries a mix of traffic, including heavy vehicles, commuter and school traffic, visitors, cyclists and pedestrians," he said.

"The Kroemer's Crossing roundabout will keep our freight and wine industries moving while ensuring the safe movement of traffic within and through our community.”

BDM Constructions were the main works contractor, with the project supporting around 19 full time equivalent jobs during construction.

The works also included the construction of a shared use path on the western side of the roundabout, adjacent to Murray Street and Burings Road, and pedestrian ramps either side of Burings Road, retaining safe access along the Barossa Trail.

Various plantings are still to be carried out by Barossa Council.
