WEEK two of the Gawler & Districts Softball Association brought plenty of big hits and scores at Karbeethan Reserve on Saturday, with Kangas and Two Wells coming out on top in the division one fixtures.
Kangas played against Giants in the day’s 4pm main event, taking a 4-1 win after great games from Jasmin Mulvey and Caitlin Holt.
Batting first, Holt got things going for Giants with a piercing shot through the infield, but a brilliant double play from Kangas denied her a run and put momentum firmly in the Kangas’ favour.
Kangas’ main offence came from a powerful strike to left field by Jasmin Mulvey, batting in two runs in the process.
Late in proceedings, Kangas managed to add a further run to its tally courtesy of a powerfully struck ball to centre field by Jenny Freeman before time was called on an enthralling battle.
Things were far less competitive in Two Wells’ 10-0 win over Bluejays, led by a great all-round game from Nikki Ruediger who had three strikeouts, a catch and a solid hit to round out her day.
In division two, Kangas Grey beat Trinity College 12-6 in an entertaining display from both sides.
After holding Trinity to no runs in the first innings, Kangas put up seven runs of its own to grab a commanding early lead which was never threatened.
Romeo Rom starred at third base for Trinity with amazing stops from powerfully struck hits, while also contributing offensively with a nice hit to right field.
Kangas Blue kept the good times rolling for its club with a 13-4 win over Two Wells, but it was an expected result as Two Wells fielded a much less experienced side.
In under-14s, Kangas collected another scalp with a 7-3 win over Giants Red with notable performances on both sides.
Giants’ Makayla Johnson got the game started with a rocket hit for a double, kick-starting a three-run inning, but it would be the last the offence would produce.
Kangas’ Alix Hill smashed a home run for some fireworks as his side scored seven runs unanswered before time was called.
Rounding out the action, Trinity College defeated Two Wells  8-1 thanks to a clear experience edge.
Pitching for Two Wells, Amelia Silvy showed resilience with an enthusiastic field backing her.
The inexperienced showed more on the batting side, as Trinity pitcher Zoe Marrich had four strike outs to go with a hit of her own.
