BAROSSA District made it three premierships in a row when it stormed home to defeat minor premier Kapunda by 12 goals in Saturday’s Barossa, Light & Gawler senior one netball grand final at Freeling.
The Bulldogs entered the game as favourites after they defeated the Bombers in the second semi-final only a fortnight earlier.
However, Kapunda started well, and led the Dogs for the first half.
Barossa coach Katrina Frederick then made some changes to combat the hot conditions, which proved wonders as her side began to get on top.
Lisa Wilson and Shannon Caire were again lethal under the goal ring, while Lee Barnett and Zoe Hoffrichter were proving near impossible to beat in defence.
The Dogs had set up an insurmountable lead and secured their third flag with a dominant final quarter.
Post-match, Frederick was delighted to seal not only the three-peat, but also her maiden premiership as coach after succeeding former mentor Roz Fraser.
“I’m very excited, it’s three in a row for the girls, and my first one as a senior one coach,” she said.
“It’s still a bit surreal.” The Bulldogs mentor added her halftime moves were almost identical to what beat the Bombers in the first semi-final.
“I put some fresh legs on, I moved Carolyn Westley into centre and Coby Rodda into wing defence,” she said.
“It was a very hot day and we needed to put someone on there to change the game up a bit.
“The only difference from the semi-final was Lisa (Wilson) in the goalie position and Shannon (Caire) outside in goal attack.
“I’m very happy for the girls and excited for them for the celebrations.”
