It’s playtime again
1 min read

THEY have been apart for months but the pre-schoolers of Freeling’s playgroup weren’t shy about getting straight back into play on Friday.

The group, along with their mums and younger siblings, were reunited last week after government social distancing restrictions relating to COVID-19, forced the shutdown of playgroups and many other parent support initiatives back in March.

Freeling Mum Amy Newbound said playgroup has been a great way to get her three-year-old son Tyler to socialise with children his own age and get to know those he will go to kindy with next year.

“It’s a benefit for him because he’s very shy and so by the time he goes to kindy this is going to bring him out of his shell more,” Amy said.

“It’s good for them to start to develop those relationships.”

Mum of four Jess Nielsen said having to stay at home for a lengthy period had been hard for her family, with playgroup also a great outlet for her to meet and socialise with other adults.

Fellow Mum Honoria Duh-Gera has also found it a great way to meet others, having only moved to Freeling last year.

“We just couldn’t wait to come back,” she said.

“My son kept asking ‘when is playgroup?’ and it’s a really nice community, so we love it”.

The Freeling Playgroup gets together from 9am to 11am, every Friday, at the Freeling Primary School.

Playgroups can be located on the ‘playgroupsa’ website.
