GAWLER harness-racing trainer Aaron Bain’s run of success with It Aint The Money continued at Globe Derby Park on Saturday, with the ex-New Zealand pacer cruising to his fifth win from the past six starts since joining Bain’s team.
Plenty of Gawler and Barossa people will enjoy the success, with South Gawler Football Club identity Dan Kiryk in the ownership group, along with Glyn Stevens (Ahrens Engineering), father and son Adrian and Tyson Gordon, and Jay Rohrlach from the Barossa.
Driven by Wayne Hill, It Aint The Money ($3.30) found the lead from gate three in the Mel Mara Pace over 1800m, and finished a 4.4 metre winner from Pay Me Interest ($6) and Straight Thru Blue ($26) two metres away third.
The seven-year-old came into Bain’s stable early this year, and after two seconds, now has really struck form. It Aint The Money resumed from a break seven days earlier at Port Pirie and had an easy win, but recorded a good mile rate of 1:58.6 on Saturday around Globe Derby in winning comfortably.
Bain said the gelding appreciated the recent opening of the Equine Pool at the Gawler and Barossa Jockey Club.
“I am able to mix up his training now with track work and swimming,” Bain said.
“The swimming helps keep his fitness up without the wear and tear on his legs from simply trackwork. It also seems to keep him fresh mentally.
“I am planning to give him two more starts here in South Australia before sending him to Queensland to chase some better prizemoney.”
One of his local starts will be on ‘Super Saturday’ at Globe Derby Park on Saturday, August 29, where races will be worth $9999.
Bain said in Queensland at Albion Park, It Aint The Money could contest races worth between $11,000 and $14,000 each week.
“I’ve already sent For The Corz up there, and in September when It Aint The Money goes, so too will Ideal World and the square-gaiter Godofthunder,” Bain said.
The Gawler Hambletonian winner Godofthunder resumed at Globe Derby Park on Saturday night, coming second off a 30-metre handicap in the Alderbaran Eagle Trotters Discretionary over 2230m, beaten by Chevals Racer.
