TWO troublesome intersections in the Playford area are set for an upgrade, after the council received funding through the Federal Government’s Black Spot program.
Elected members were notified the intersections of Uley and Gawler-One Tree Hill roads at Yattalunga, near One Tree Hill, and Coventry Road and Anderson Walk at Smithfield Plains had received the funding at a Strategic Planning Committee (SPC) meeting last Tuesday.
The Uley and Gawler-One Tree Hill roads intersection received $101,200 for improvements, while the Smithfield Plains intersection received $597,300.
According to a report presented to the SPC, there were four “casualty” crashes at each intersection over the past five years.
The projects are set to cost the council $51,000 in associated operating costs, which will be funded through “efficiencies within the council’s operations”.
Residents living nearby the two intersections will be notified of changes to traffic conditions before the works commence.
The notorious Curtis and Heaslip roads intersection at Angle Vale was also considered for the Federal Government funding, but did not receive any.
Community members have lobbied both Playford Council and the State Government for funding for a roundabout at the junction since last year.
The project will now be looked at for State Government Black Spot funding in the future.
