Holder runs hot at Gawler
1 min read

JOCKEY Jason Holder celebrated a double at the Gawler & Barossa Jockey Club during last Wednesday’s race meeting.

However, it was trainer Eric Musgrove who got the meeting off to a perfect start when his nine-year-old gelding Tangara sailed home by three lengths in race one.

It was the horse’s first victory since March 2018, where it won at Terang.

Holder then got his opening win of the day aboard Darren Magro’s Spiegel Grove in race two, ahead of Grant Young’s Shakopee and Kirsten Mooney’s Ace Attack.

It was the six-year-old gelding’s first win since it won at Port Augusta back in September.

In race three, Luke O’Connor’s favourite Waikato Express was successful in beating Robbie Atkinson’s outsider Foxy Ambition, and John Hickmott’s Near Magic.

It was the three-year-old gelding’s first career win following eight runs.

Holder celebrated his double in race four aboard Matthew Seyers’ The Publikin, which beat out Ken Sweeney’s Shining Brightly by two lengths.

It was the three-year-old filly’s first career victory.

In race five, Nikki Pollock’s favourite King Red blitzed Sue Murphy’s Hasta La Spec by nearly 13 lengths.

It was the six-year-old gelding’s fifth win of the season, and fourth win in a row.

In race six, Simon Bates’ $16-outsider Quivers was the big winner, just pipping Peter Nolan’s Wing Snipper and Richard Jolly’s Artistic Focus by under half a length.

It was the six-year-old mare’s first win of the season, and its first victory since it was successful at Balaklava back in November 2017.

Finally, Ken Sweeney’s Svetlana’s Arrow was successful in the final run of the day, beating Grant Young’s Exalted Traveller and Richard Jolly’s Angel’s Wish.

It was the five-year-old mare’s first season win, and it’s first victory since January 2018 at Kingscote.

The Gawler & Barossa Jockey Club’s next meet is on Saturday.
