TWO Wells midfielder Ty Hocking took home the Plains Producer Medal at Saturday evening’s Adelaide Plains football and netball best and fairest count.
The former Kapunda player polled 17 votes in a low tally to beat out Virginia’s Danny Stanley by two votes, and Balaklava’s Nick Ferguson and United’s Travis Beard, who both finished on 13.
Despite Hocking winning the medal, his coach, Neville Seccafien, believed his star on-baller actually had a more consistent season in 2018.
“His year was more up and down, but his good games are really, really good – he got five best on grounds,” he said.
“I felt last year he was more even (with his output), I thought his highs were real high and, in all fairness, we only lost one game last year, and lost four this year.
“He was an obvious choice in those games he played well in.
“It’s not every year that 17 votes is enough to win it.”
Hocking joined the Roosters following Kapunda’s Barossa, Light & Gawler grand final loss to Barossa District in 2017, and Seccafien said he has been a vital addition to the team.
“You never question his commitment and his attack on the footy; for a bloke who’s 60kgs, he puts in 100 percent,” he said.
“He’s real handy, he won our best and fairest last year.
“Because he’s a goal kicker as well, we can always take him out of the midfield and put him up forward if things need to change.
“He can be that potent forward that the opposition would be forced to put a good defender on.
“He’s been fantastic for us, his commitment to the contest is great.
“We’re really happy for him, we don’t have a lot of Mail Medallists as we usually have an even spread of guys rolling through the guts.”
Also on the night, Balaklava’s Stuart Lamond won the B-grade best and fairest, while Angle Vale’s Callum Hall and Jordan Campbell won the under 17 and under 14 awards, respectively.
