TRINITY College has made history
by becoming the first school
to win five successive Open Girls
Knockout Cricket titles in a row.
Trinity was relentless in its pursuit
of the title, winning by 169 runs
in the semi-final.
Led by captain Isobella Nitschke
(49no) and Alanah Gregory (47no),
Trinity made 2/180 before bowling
Mount Gambier out for just 11.
Emmerson Filsel took 5/3 and
Evelyn Todd took 2/0.
In the final against Brighton High
School, Trinity bowled out its opposition
for just 74, with Emily
Laird and Kasey Wendland doing
the damage with the ball.
Wendland would make 36 not out
alongside Todd, who made 34 not
out as they led Trinity to the title.
Wendland said the depth of the
side was the reason they went on to
claim the championship.
“It’s is good to know we have a
good depth of players, we can all
bat and bowl, and it makes it easier
for other girls that have not experienced
as much as the girls that have
played cricket for a long time,” she
said.
Trinity College coordinator of
girls cricket George Gregory the
semi-final win was all about preparing.
“In the semi-final, we obviously
knew our opposition what was coming
up ahead so we size them up and
we made sure, in the semi, we got
everyone to bat and then luckily we
did because we bowled them out for
11,” he said.
