Highway roundabout plan moves forward
1 min read

LIGHT Regional Council will permit construction of a new roundabout on Horrocks Highway subject to formal approvals being obtained from a government body, including a speed limit reduction to 80km/h.

At last Tuesday’s general meeting council’s staff had recommended permitting a roundabout proposed by Zarmen Pty Ltd (a Hickinbotham company) in a variation of the final road infrastructure deed for the Roseworthy Township Expansion (RTE) project.

It followed a commitment from Hickinbotham to deliver an internal collector road to the southern boundary of the Zarmen land within
three years.

Council had recently set a two-week deadline for Hickinbotham and neighbouring developer Land Vision Group to submit a mutual position on the internal road.

The subject road would link the Hickinbotham development to the location of the new ‘town activity centre’, on land being developed by Land Vision Group Hickinbotham’s recent commitment was subject to council approving the proposed roundabout, linking to its housing estate to the west and  separate ‘employment lands’ to the east.

“While the above is the Hickinbotham Group’s position, it does not seem that a mutual position has been reached between the developers to advise council of at this juncture,” a staff report, to last week’s meeting reads.

Any approval from council is anticipated to be subject to all ‘planning’ approvals being received and the speed limit for a section of Horrocks Highway being reduced to
80km/h.

The Department of Infrastructure and Transport has endorsed the roundabout, on the basis that it will provide “safe and convenient” access to the Roseworthy development.
