EX-SOUTH Gawler Lion Travis Head has had his contract with Sussex County Cricket Club for the 2020 season deferred to 2021 after the England and Wales Cricket Board announced no professional cricket would be played until, at earliest, August 1.
While there are still tentative plans for the T20 Blast competition to go ahead, with potentially a smaller Championship season, Head, along with a number of big-name international recruits, will be brought back to compete in all three formats in 2021.
“Whilst it is very disappointing, it is clear that there are many difficulties surrounding the 2020 English domestic cricket season and we all agree this is in the best interests of all concerned,” Head told ESPN Cricinfo.
Sussex Country head coach, Adelaide-born Jason Gillespie, said the club is delighted to have Head committed to next season.
“It is clear that this season is going to be difficult and we are keen to develop a longer-term relationship between Travis and the club, so this suits both parties," he said.
