Harvey prepared for Déjà vu
1 min read

THIS Saturday will have a sense of Déjà vu for Angaston veteran Craig Harvey, as his Panthers take Tanunda on in the Barossa, Light & Gawler A-grade football grand final at Freeling Oval.

Only 10 years ago, Harvey was a part of the Panthers’ last team to make a grand final.

They lost to the Magpies at Freeling Oval, as Tanunda claimed its second of what would be four successive premierships.

“It’s a bit of a similar situation, that year Tanunda were in one of their strongest eras,” Harvey said.

“They went into that game as fairly strong favourites, whereas there’s not too much separating us this year.

“It’s certainly a familiar experience.”

The 40-year-old will not be the only member of that year’s decider playing on Saturday, with Andrew Pech, Angus Adams and Nic Falland set for their second crack at the Pies.

However, both Harvey and Pech also featured in the club’s last premiership back in 2003.

“I’m fairly settled going in, I’ve played in a few now at Angaston,” he said.

“I’ve played in seven grand finals in total, four at Angaston…it’s been a while between drinks, that’s for sure.”

Harvey re-joined the Panthers from country Victoria at the start of 2018, and has been stunned by the transformation of the club within 12 months.

“I’m pretty excited (for Saturday), we’ve come a long way in 12 months,” he said.

“It’s an exciting week, it’s the first time since 1986 both the As and Bs get to experience the week as a collective group.

“We’ve been lucky we’ve had some of our local crop shooting into the prime of their football careers.

“We’ve had an injection of some high quality players to complement our local blokes…put those things together and it’s a nice formula.”

Harvey is expected to line-up in the forward line for the Panthers on Saturday.
