Happy birthday Elva!
1 min read

LOCAL woman Elva Deane may have celebrated her 102nd birthday last week, but her daughter says she’s still “bright and happy”.
The Eldercare, Evanston Park, resident was joined by friends and family to celebrate the milestone, although COVID-19 pandemic rules meant some of her visitors had to enjoy the day from behind a screen.
Her daughter Robyn Ruchel said her mother is a strong and bright woman.
“For her it’s just another day because she had two lots of celebrations for her 100th birthday,” she said.
“She’s been the type of person who just takes everything as it comes past. She’s had some bad knocks in her life but she just keeps
going.
“She’s had some interesting milestones in her life. She learned to drive in a Model T Ford and it’s one thing she always tell the grandkids and the great grandkids.”
Mrs Deane was born in Gawler at the Sister Green’s Nursing Home, located on Victoria Terrace, opposite where the Gawler Aquatic Centre is currently located.
She grew up in Williamstown and also lived throughout the Barossa Valley during her lifetime.
Mrs Ruchel said she was actively involved in her children’s lives.
“She was always at our sports days and used to umpire our netball team,” she said.
“Also, she taught me a lot in craft and even both my boys know how to sew because of her.”
