Hall upgrade considered
1 min read

A LIGHT Regional councillor has queried future works at the Kapunda Soldiers Memorial Hall, stating its current condition is “disappointing”.
Councillor Peter Kennelly raised the topic of the hall as a ‘question without notice’ at the March infrastructure committee meeting, and was told the hall will likely be included in a proposed conservation management plan.
“Minor maintenance works have been carried out as an interim measure until a suitable report can be commissioned and a full refurbishment of the building can be undertaken (subject to
approvals and the necessary funding),” council’s Property & Facilities manager Megan Renzella said in a report to the committee.
“A business case has been presented for the upcoming financial year to commission a Heritage Conservation Plan which will identify and report on how the building can be restored with indicative costs.
“Ideally prepared by specialist heritage architects, the conservation plan will also provide suggestions of how to provide modern facilities including access with suggested improvements suitable for approval by the State Heritage Department.”
The Kapunda Hall was previously managed by an incorporated association, up until the end of 2018, with council now responsible for its maintenance and hiring-out.
