Greyhound racing in Gawler gets $90,000 improvement

GAWLER Greyhound Racing Club (GGRC) opened its brand new $90,000 Trackside Function Room a fortnight ago to complement the already established Nixon’s Function Centre.
Establishing the new downstairs facility was an initiative put in motion by the GGRC at the beginning of this year, after its racing schedule was changed by Greyhound Racing South Australia from Sunday nights to Friday afternoons.
GGRC manager Shawn Noack was delighted to see the new ‘Trackside’ area opened.
“Over the last couple of years with increasing function numbers, we’ve considered doing something with the downstairs facility,” he said.
“We’ve upgraded it from being a storage room to a function room.
“It fits in with our current function/racing facility and give us more opportunity to promote the club and venue as the place to come to in Gawler.
“It’s a really exciting development for the club.”
Mr Noack said the new room will give the club more flexibility for function bookings in the future.
“There’s still some modifications to occur, but as a whole it’s ready to be used,” he said.
“For race day activity, if we have a prebooked function upstairs (at Nixon’s) we’ll have racing downstairs.
“We’ve got it set up so that TAB, bar facilities and food is available.
“We have it so we can have multiple functions at the same time.”
The Gawler Central Sporting Club has also been utilising the upgraded facility as a part of its recent football and netball home games, and Mr Noack is eager to see it used more regularly in 2020.
“We’re having discussions about next year about maybe using it as a more permanent facility during the season,” he said.
