Greenway to be connected to new paths this month
1 min read

A $3 MILLION project that will link segments of the Gawler Greenway with the Port River and Northern Connector cycling and walking paths is planned to commence this month.

Greenways are dedicated walking and cycling routes that follow public transport corridors and open space, such as rivers and nature strips.

The upcoming works – which will stretch from Regency Road, along Naweena Road and then extend through to Salisbury Highway – will help achieve “a more comprehensive Greenway network by connecting dedicated walking and cycling paths between Adelaide and Mawson Lakes”.

“This shared use path will provide a safe route for cyclists between Port Adelaide and Gawler,” transport and infrastructure minister Stephan Knoll said.

“It will provide important local connections for residential, educational and industrial areas along the Northern Connector and Port River Expressway corridors.

“The shared use path will provide a safe, attractive and direct alternative to the current bike lanes on the Port River Expressway shoulder.”

The works are expected to be completed within two months, weather permitting.

When fully finished, the Gawler Greenway project, which has been in planning for years, will extend the entire way from Adelaide to Gawler by connecting several other key cycling and walking paths, including the Dry Creek Trail, Little Para River Trail, Jack Bobridge Track, Stuart O’Grady Bikeway, and a new path to be constructed alongside the Northern Connector.
