AFTER setting the tone on day one of its Barossa & Light A1 reserves cricket matchup with Willaston, Greenock picked up where it left off, on its way to outright victory.

After resuming play at 1/100, chasing 107, the Schlungers pushed on to 7/253 before sending the Donnybrooks back in, trailing by 146.

After sputtering to a 3/10 start, a strong 58 not out from Paul Johnston almost forced Greenock to bat again for the outright win, but ultimately fell short by six runs, dismissed for 140.

Sam Byrne was the pick of the Schlungers’ second innings bowlers, taking 3/12 off eight overs in an economical effort.

In Kapunda, Gawler Central was unable to chase down 174 as tailender Liam Retallack was the only batsman to pass 15 runs for the Tigers on their way to a disappointing 41-run loss.

For Kapunda, Brett Johnson (3/14) and Lachlan Mickan (3/22) were the pick of the bowlers.

Lyndoch was able to defend its massive total of 283 at home against a brave Angaston side, as Aaron Murphy’s 75 was not enough to make up for Angaston’s top three batsmen combining for six runs.

George Clarridge was strong for the home side, taking four wickets and going at less than three runs per over, as they knocked over Angaston for 200.

The only successful chase in the division came from Light Pass as it was able to comfortably sail past Eudunda-Robertstown’s lowly 114, as Alex Crossley backed up his six wickets with a handy 37 with the bat.

In A2, Sandy Creek was fighting a losing battle in trying to chase Truro’s monster 336, and despite Gareth Davis’s 66, they eventually succumbed on 211.

Travis Jensen and Kym Hoffman took three wickets each for Truro.

South Gawler registered a 105 run first innings victory over Nuriootpa as James Nas (4/37) and the rest of the Lions bowlers controlled proceedings, never allowing partnerships to grow.

Gawler Central’s Carl Nesbitt likely takes player of the round honours, as he backed up his 46 runs with 7/57 with the ball, as Tanunda limped to a total of 120, handing the Tigers a 94-run first innings victory.

In A3, Angaston secured an outright win against Willaston as Michael Pech and Bradley Sibley took five wickets each in the first and second innings respectively.

In A4, Gawler Central lost a heartbreaker to Greenock after it was 8/165, chasing 166.

Michael Obst was in charge of the late-innings heroics, nabbing both wickets to steal a one-run victory.

In A5, the highest scoring matchup of the round was Nurioopta chasing down Angaston’s modest total of 77 with four wickets in hand after Jamie Schmidt (40) put the team on his back to take the win.
