Golly Gum Drops remains perfect at Gawler

ON a beautiful autumn Friday, Adam Manton’s Golly Gum Drop made it two-for-two in its runs at the Gawler track, but the pairing almost never came to be.
Owner/trainer Petar Jovanovic recently contacted Manton asking if he would take over the training of a couple of his greyhounds since he had a number of pups coming through.
Adam, and partner Jane, were only able to take on one of the two offered, and chose Gully Gum Drops who had been reared at their property as a pup.
Golly Gum Drops had returned to racing recently after recovering from a shoulder strain and looked to be returning to full strength.
The greyhound ran an excellent 400m maiden race on May 22, finishing in an excellent time of 22.92 to win her race.
Coming off that performance, Golly Gum Drops left the field for dead over the 400m in a grade six race, pinging to the front and never being challenged to win in a time of 22.72, which was the best of the day.
Next, she will step up to the 531m distance this coming Friday in a breeder’s challenge series, and will answer some questions about its ideal journey in doing so.
Manton said that he has been extremely pleased to take her on, and that even he is surprised by just how good she is.
Racing can be viewed on Sky Racing each day, and although some restrictions to COVID-19 have been lifted for pubs and clubs, racing is still a closed venue for the coming period. The club said it hopes that as restrictions ease over the coming month(s) it will be able to have the public back to enjoy what is a great day out at Gawler.
