MCKENZIE THOMPSON

GAWLER Girl Guides will participate in their muchloved annual biscuit drive fundraiser this Saturday.

The girls will set up stalls at Gawler Bunnings and Gawler Arcade from 9am-3pm to help generate funds for their guiding activities, and to make improvements to their hall.

Gawler Girl Guide leader Sue Cruickshank said guiding gives girls the chance to grow as individuals, while learning new skills that are not always available elsewhere.

“They can use these skills to become confident leaders of their local and school communities, and beyond,” she said.

“The funds for the biscuits are for the support groups of the Girl Guides.

“It will enable us to be able to maintain and improve our hall.

“As a volunteer, it is nice to receive something, so we are hoping for new uniforms as well.

Mrs Cruickshank said the girls were looking forward to making improvements to their hall.

“This year, as a feature outside the hall, we would like to build a spiral herb garden,” she said.

“The other thing will be to replace some of our chairs.

"Some of the funds will also go towards subsidising the girls, as we have a region camp coming up in September.”

Mrs Cruickshank said purchasing Girl Guide biscuits this weekend will help to fund programs that will aim to empower local girls, develop their leadership skills, boost their confidence, and help them to reach their full potential in life.

“The iconic Girl Guide biscuit range includes the flagship traditional vanilla biscuit, buttery shortbread (gluten-free), and the bite-sized mini chocolate chip biscuit with real chocolate,” she said.

The public can purchase the traditional biscuits and choc chop biscuits for $3.50 per packet, and the gluten-free short bread for $4 per packet.
