Generous students donate to hospital
1 min read

THE Lyell McEwin Hospital’s (LMH) Special Care Nursery has received a funding boost from a group of generous primary school students.

Blakeview Primary Schools students held a casual clothes day fundraiser last month, raising $650 – the school’s most successful charity event ever.

The school’s Student Representative Council then chose to donate the money to the LMH, a hospital where many of them were born.

Some students also spent their first days in the unit, or have friends or family who did.

Year 7 student Matilda Thompson hoped the presents would “come in use a lot and help as many people as possible”.

The donated equipment includes three new breast pumps, which will be loaned out to families who need extended care in the nursery and are not ready to go home.

Students also donated new sheets to the hospital.

LMH Special Care Nursery Midwifery Unit Manager Monica Ryan appreciated the student’s support.

“We are grateful for any donation we receive and it is incredibly touching that the students at Blakeview Primary School thought of us,” she said.

“It’s exciting to see such young students already thinking about other people in their community.

“We are constantly looking for ways to make the experience of special care as homely and comfortable as possible for our babies and their families and donations like these are always welcome.”
