GAWLER & Districts Softball Association claimed a senior state championship last week as its C-grade side toppled Riverland 10-2, while its B-grade team lost its decider against Adelaide 2-7 in tough conditions.
Teams were made up of a combination of players from clubs Kangas, Bluejays, Two Wells and Giants.
C-grade coach Matt Sutton said it was a terrific effort from his squad, and the success of the association was a credit to the hard work of the players.
“To have two teams both perform so well says a lot about the quality of competition in the Gawler & Districts Softball Association – but ultimately it’s the squad that deserves the
credit,” he said.
“Their ability to work as a group and maintain their heads in tough, scorching conditions was really admirable.
“We had some dominant pitching from Kelly Bryan, and Nat Wik supported her beautifully in the field, but really everyone needs to be at their best to win a final 10-2 like we did.”
Gawler & Districts Softball Association’s Sally Green rounded out the weekend’s action by finishing second in the competition’s home run derby.
