Gawler’s Saturday bowlers keep on rolling

IN a battle for a spot in the Metropolitan Bowls Association Thursday division one top-four, Gawler’s ladies fell by 18 shots on the road to fifth-placed West Lakes.
Dawn Warland’s girls snatched a two-shot win to give the team two points, which sees Gawler level with West Lakes on 58 premiership points.
However, with an inferior shot differential, Gawler was leapfrogged and dropped to fifth place, with a road trip this week to face inconsistent Kensington Marryatville and claw back up the ladder.
Gawler’s division three side was outpointed by 23 shots by home side Hope Valley as it failed to take a rink.
Still hovering just above the relegation zone, any and all points are valuable for this Gawler team, and it nearly grabbed a couple when Sandie Raggio’s girls fell by the narrowest of margins.
In a tight and tense battle with plenty on the line, Gawler's Saturday division two side defeated West Lakes by 15 shots to maintain top spot on the ladder.
With three rinks down early, all fought back to grab two draws, and a one-shot win to Leigh Roberts' lads.
The four of Haycock, Kirby, Squire and Hunter were out of the blocks quickly, and it was only a matter of how much they’d win by on the way to a comfortable 14 shot win.
With little separating first and seventh, another home win against Adelaide this week is needed to consolidate its position.
In a big upset, the division five Gawler White knocked off the top-placed Gawler Red team by 11 shots.
It was an impressive showing as the underdogs took three of the four rinks, and 14 of the 16 points on offer against the more fancied opponents.
The result now sees Gawler White only nine points out of the top-four.
The fours of Kingsley Branson (five-up) and Shirley Branson (six- up) were good, but Wilton, Marsh, Cousins and skipper Gillies were better, outpointing their opponents by eight shots.
