GAWLER’S dominant Barossa Valley A-women hockey side claimed a few accolades at Monday night’s annual BVHA awards presentation.

Star Strikers duo Hanna Kingsmill and Jess Szulc were named as the joint best and fairest runner-up to Nuriootpa’s Tyler Burgess, who has had an outstanding individual season.

Jacqui Rowe claimed the goal scoring trophy for the second year running after she scored 38 goals this year.

Gawler also dominated the Team of the Year, featuring four players and coach Jordan Rhind.

Kingsmill, Rowe, Szulc and Kelly Rowntree were all selected, alongside Tanunda’s Sophie Collings, Tamsyn Pfeiffer, Emma Schultz and Jaz Knott, Angaston-Moculta United’s Rachel Graetz, and Nuriootpa duo Courtney Ribbons and Tyler Burgess.

In the B-women awards, Tanunda’s Jan Falconer was the best and fairest, and her team-mate Mel Partington took home the goal-scoring trophy after she put away 32 goals throughout the 2019
campaign.

Clare United’s Ellen Canna finished as the runner-up.

Meanwhile, it was all about AMU in the A-men awards. Young star Callum Munchenberg took home the best and fairest from Nuriootpa veteran Craig Schulz.

His AMU team-mate Daniel Wall was the highest goal-scorer with 22 goals.

In the B-men competition, Tanunda’s Rob Blythman was the recipient of the best and fairest, from joint runners- up fellow Tanunda player Nick Dry and Clare United’s Luke Burge.

AMU’s Jason Seabrook also claimed the top-scorer award with 21 goals.

The men’s Team of the Year was dominated by the Barossa-based clubs, with Trinity Old Scholars-Gawler’s sole representative being Tom Gregory.

Nuriootpa’s Greg and Craig Schulz, Dexter Falkenberg and Rhind all booked a spot in the Team of the Year alongside Munchenberg, Wall and Peter Rieters.

Preliminary finalist Tanunda also featured Alec Hutchins, Josh Hancock and Oliver Coats.

The coach was Nuriootpa’s David McInerney, after he guided the team to the minor premiership.
