GAWLER’S Thursday division one bowlers fell to Kensington Marryatville by 12 shots, taking no points for the day, but it wasn’t the disaster it could have been as results elsewhere went its way.
Locked in a tussle with West Lakes for fourth spot, Gawler’s chances weren’t harmed as the Lakers also went pointless, leaving both sides locked together on 58 points for the season.
However, the ladies will have to be at the top of their game over the next month as they face the top three sides.
Despite suffering a 15-shot loss, also to Kensington Marryatville, the division three ladies put up a good fight against a team that is only seven premiership points from top spot.
On an unfamiliar green, the four of Alvaro, Buckley, Selleck and Fuller excelled to post an 8-shot rink win to earn the side two points, and with Sandie Raggio’s girls only four shots adrift at the end of play, the team is not without a chance at home to Modbury this week.
Saturday competition saw Gawler’s top-ranked division two side fall to Adelaide by four shots, after succumbing to the same side by a single shot in the first round of the season.
Two rink wins courtesy of the fours of Daryl Kubisch and Leigh Roberts earned the side four points for its hard work to keep Gawler in third place.
After stumbling against sister team Gawler White last week, the Gawler Red division five side put in a solid performance away to Two Wells.
Although going down by eight shots, all rinks were competitive and wins to the fours of Trevor Grant and Kay Moncrieff resulted in four valuable points to keep Gawler Red in the top-four mix.
Continuing its mid-season resurgence, Gawler White are remarkably only two shots shy of a top-four spot.
With confidence high, it posted a 28-shot win on the road against Prospect Broadview.
Winning the rinks of Barry Bradbrook Jnr (eight up) and Kingsley Branson (nine up) and the in-form crew of Wilton, Marsh, Cousins and skipper Bob Gillies (14 up) banked the side 14 points.
On the back of a huge 37-9 rink win to the four of Hiney, Phillips, Woods and Fielden, Gawler’s division seven side ran out 58-shot winners against Penfield.
On any other day, winning your rink by 13 shots (Bradbrook Snr) and 17 shots (Hamilton) would have been the talking points, but Fielden’s crew were outstanding to finish the day 26-shots up.
