STARPLEX Swim Club took 51 swimmers to the State Long Course Championships at the end of January, winning medals, hitting national qualifying times, and breaking records.
Aiden Grigg was the cream of the crop, breaking four multiclass records including the S14 South Australian 100m backstroke, 14 years 50m freestyle, 13-15 years 50m breaststroke, and open 50m breaststroke.
He was amongst a bevy of success stories, as the club collected 13 gold medals, 19 silvers, 16 bronze, and a staggering 209 personal best times across all events, placing STARplex Swim Club third in the state for combined team scores.
STARplex Swim Club president, Nicki Ryan, said that it was “brilliant” to see kids breakthrough the ceiling of what they thought they could do.
“A lot of them have been around a while, and I think they were getting in a bit of a rut, but now their confidence is boosted and they can see the results of their hard work,” she said.
“We had a few swimmers get their national times as well, which means in April we will have a team of six or seven heading to Perth for that, which is really exciting.”
Ryan said the swimming club is as big as it has ever been right now, boasting over 70 members, and with it being an Olympic year, the club is expecting another influx post-Tokyo.
