SITTING one point below Somerton and in a tussle for a top-four spot, Gawler’s Thursday division one ladies took all rinks and the maximum points to leapfrog the opposition into fifth-place on the ladder.
Kay Moncrieff’s girls were well ahead all day to finish 10-shots up, while Dawn Warland’s four kept getting better as the match progressed to finish nine-up.
Teresa Dean’s crew trailed all day, but took a one-shot victory with the last bowl of the day.
With the top-two teams putting a gap between themselves and the rest of the field, Gawler’s win sees it in contention for a top-four spot and only five points from third place.
Second-placed Two Wells was too classy for the Gawler’s division three ladies, running out winners by 33 shots.
Unable to match it with the higher ranked side, plenty of fight was still shown by the Gawler team with Di Marsh and her girls having Gawler’s best rink on the day, pushing their opponents to within five shots.
In a top of the table clash, Gawler’s Saturday division two team triumphed over home side Henley by 17 shots to move into first place on the ladder.
In wet and windy conditions and on a green where success has previously eluded them, Gawler’s bowlers grabbed three rinks and a valuable 14 points away from home.
Daryl Kubisch’s four snatched a two-shot win on the last end, while Leigh Roberts guided his lads to a five-shot win.
The four of Clifton, Dean, Hatcher and Marsden were impressive, finishing 18 shots up to round out a great day.
The division five Gawler Red team has also seemingly hit its straps with a 36-shot win over top-four side Para Hills.
The 16 points sees them elevated to top spot for the first time this season, and with this week’s game against bottom side Prospect Broadview, Gawler Red is a good chance to stay there.
Taking all rinks, with three of them by two shots, the difference was the outstanding performance of Wildy, Boucher, Parker and Kirby who crushed their opponents 35-5.
Despite splitting the rinks 2-2, the division five Gawler White side fell 19-shots short against visiting team Hope Valley.
A hard fought one-shot win to Kingsley Branson's lads was bettered by the four of Goodrich, Betton, Roach and Shirley Branson with a runaway 31-17 score line.
Banking four points for the day, Gawler White sits ninth in the 10-team competition, but with a fair gap between itself and last-place, and hopes of further improving its position when hosting Para Hills this week.
It was a great result for Gawler’s division seven side, defeating fourth-placed and higher-ranked Semaphore on its home turf by 12 shots.
The 10 points earned for the win sees Gawler take fourth place, and pull within striking distance of top spot.
Barry Bradbrook Senior guided his charges to a six-shot win, but internal bragging rights go to the four of Hiney, Higgins, Woods and skipper Hamilton who finished the day 11-up.
