Gawler goes thrift shopping

LOCAL thrift shoppers are gearing up to pop some tags next month when the Gawler Community House hosts its first Op Shop Crawl.

Held on Friday, March 20, the crawl will start at Gawler Community House for tea and coffee, before visiting Gawler Uniting Church Corner Op Shop, Life Line, Vinnies, AWL, and the Salvation Army by foot.

Sharyn Lewis and Christine Boyle have organised the event, where attendants will be offered something by almost every shop.

“It’s going to be a surprise what they get on the day. There’ll be promotions throughout the day,” Mrs Lewis said.

“It’s about making the public aware of all the op shops that are available and starting a conversation about recycling and reusing.”

Mrs Lewis said it’s easy to find lovely second hand clothing as opposed to everything being brand new.

“It gives people something to do. It’s about bringing people together and meeting new friends,” she said.

Volunteers will be happy to give styling tips on the day.

“It’s always good to have that person who says ‘that looks great’, or ‘maybe you should try something else’,” Mrs Lewis said.

“We know there are people out there who don’t have that. We’re just wanting to help one another.”

The Gawler Community House pitched the idea to the local op shops.

“They’ve all come on board with open arms, they all think it’s a fantastic idea, Mrs Lewis said.

After the crawl, those who have registered for the event will be invited back to the Gawler Community House for a gold coin donation sausage sizzle at around 1.30pm.

Bookings are essential for discounts, contact 8522 4601 to register.
