Gawler gets a Power-up
1 min read

PORT Adelaide’s Jack Watts and Jack Trengove ventured into Gawler on Thursday night and stopped by The Exchange Hotel to chat with some local fans.

Plenty of people packed into the pub as the duo walked around signing autographs and taking photos with the Power faithful.

Midfielder Trengove, who joined the club at the end of 2017 after departing Melbourne, said he loved going to local events.

“I guess for me, I grew up in a small country town in the South East, I still remember the days AFL players would come to our school or come to the local footy club,” he said.

“When I come out for events like this, I look back to those times and remember how much I appreciated it.

“It’s a chance to give back.”

However, he said he rarely gets the opportunity to visit Gawler.

“I usually go through Gawler on the way to somewhere,” Trengove said.

“My dad and his family are up from around the Clare and Spalding area, and he works at Roseworthy now.

“I’ve never spent of a lot of time here, but I might come back and spend some time at The Exchange.

“It’s always a good experience coming out to these events, and hopefully we can do it more often.”

The Exchange’s manager, Damian McGee, who has hosted former AFL talent like Sydney premiership captain Barry Hall previously, said he enjoys bringing footy stars to town.

“It’s good, we’re in a privileged position where we have the network to bring some AFL players and celebrities to Gawler,” he said.

“We look to take those opportunities and share it with the community.

“I was impressed with how they (Trengove and Watts) were both so warm with every person they spoken to.”
