Gawler CEO saga continues
1 min read

GAWLER Council has done “irreparable damage” to its reputation as a result of CEO Henry Inat’s push for a new contract, according to Member for Light Tony Piccolo.

As reported in The Bunyip last week, Mr Inat recently presented a report to council’s CEO performance management panel asking to have his pay increased from $262,090 to $265,760 per year, as well as exclusive use of a luxury 4WD.

The report was tabled weeks after he was unsuccessful in applying for the Playford Council chief executive role, as made public by The Advertiser on Monday.

Speaking to The Bunyip, Mr Piccolo once again slammed the council and Mr Inat’s contract extension move.

“From the feedback I have received from the community, it is clear an extension to the CEO’s contract as this time, would be completely at odds with community sentiment and expectations,” he said.

“I think the Council should spend more time engaging with the community and less time behind closed doors.

“This whole saga has unfortunately done irreparable damage to council’s reputation, and this could have an adverse impact on investment in our town.

“I am already aware of businesses who will not do business in our town because of the council and this recent fracas is not helping.

“The council should be spending more time focused on improving services and help stimulate the local economy and support the creation of new jobs.”

Elected members discussed Mr Inat’s proposed contract extension behind closed doors at last Tuesday’s council meeting.

The council then called a special meeting for Monday night, where the CEO’s pay rise was once again on the agenda.

New local government reforms are set to see council chief executive’s pay packets set by the Remuneration Tribunal of South Australia.

Mr Inat declined to comment.
