GAWLER Little Athletics Centre (LAC) has had a successful 2018/19 season, with four of its members taking home silverware at the recent South Australian Little Athletics Association Awards night.
Gawler LAC had three athletes recognised as the Coles Athlete of the Month for either participation or commitment.
Its December athlete was Jarrad Dieckmann, who received a commitment award for consistently showing high levels of dedication, sportsmanship, and leadership at the club.
Now in Under 15s, Jarrad is one of the older athletes at the club — having been a member for five seasons — and acts as a role model to the younger members.
The January athlete was Ayden Colbourne, who received an achievement award for breaking multiple centre records and topping over 50 personal bests.
Ayden also won senior male of the year at the club, thanks to his efforts throughout the season.
In March, James Stirling won the club’s third Coles Athlete of the Month award, receiving an achievement accolade.
James notched 53 personal bests over the season, attended all state meets and was the club’s runner-up for senior male athlete of the year.
One of Gawler LAC’s volunteers, Jess Ryswyk, was also a dual recipient of the 2018/19 Volunteer of the Year award.
Jess started off the season as a parent helper with the Tiny Tots, however by the end of the season was running the program in place of the previous co-ordinator.
The new season is set to commence on Sunday, September 22 and the Gawler LAC is hosting a free Come and Try session for children to try out the sports.
