THE Barossa, Light & Gawler women’s football competition looks set to feature a team from all nine clubs in 2020, with Freeling announcing its interest to join recently.
The Redlegs have not participated in the previous three seasons, but have put out expressions of interest for an applicant to help run the club’s women’s football program.
BLGW chairperson Adam Butcher said the inclusion of Freeling will be one of a few changes to the women’s competition next year.
“Freeling is looking to get under 14s going as far as I know,” he said.
“We will have all nine football clubs next year, which will be nice.”
The association trialled playing a match after the A-grade game on Anzac Day, similar to what the SANFLW does, and Mr Butcher said it was well-received.
“It’s interesting, a lot of the feedback is to play more Saturday night games after the A-grade,” he said.
“After the few games they (the players) did do it, they were really keen to do more of that.”
The BLGW is also looking at scheduling the junior fixtures on a Friday night, which would be a move away from the Sunday timeslot the competition has had since inception.
The next stage for the women’s football competition in 2019 is the SANFL Talent Shield, which gets under way on August 25 at Sturt Oval.
