Follow the Hewett story trail
1 min read

LOCAL children have the opportunity to take the ‘story trail’ these school holidays as part of a planned community activity, at Hewett.

Light Regional Mayor Bill O’Brien will guide children along a walking trail, near the Rosella Circuit playground, reading from specially placed signs telling the ‘King of the Outback' story.

The children’s book, written by Kristin Weidenbach and Illustrated by Timothy Ide, tells of Kidman’s rise to become one of the world's greatest pastoralists.

Along the trail, children can collect interesting pieces of nature to complete a collage back at the Hewett Centre, following the walk.

The event has been organised by the Light Regional Council library service and will be held over two sessions, 10am to 11am and 1pm to 2pm, this Friday, October 2.

Bookings are essential and can be made at (lrclibraries.eventbrite.com.au).

Hewett is one of three locations currently featuring a story trail, with We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, by Michael Rosen, currently featured within the Freeling wetlands, and A Walk in the Bush by Gwyn Perkins, now at the Pines Conservation Reserve, Kapunda.

Chance to win

The Bunyip’s readers still have the chance to win one of two copies of King of the Outback, donated by author Kristin Weidenbach.

To enter, take a photo of yourself on the King of the Outback Story Trail, (now in Hewett), and email it to ellouise@bunyippress.com.au by October 7.

Entries may be published in The Bunyip newspaper, so please provide names of those pictured.

Once notified, the winner must be able to collect their book from The Bunyip’s office, at 120 Murray Street, Gawler.
