Fix this intersection

THREE more crashes have occurred in the past two weeks at the notorious Curtis-Heaslip Road intersection and Playford councillor Clint Marsh is again pushing for improvements.

Cr Marsh said while the crashes have been minor, it’s only a matter of time before lives are lost at the Angle Vale intersection.

“I’m going to put a motion on notice this month that we instruct the CEO to put an application forward to have Curtis Road reduced down to 60km/h,” he said.

“We’ve had three accidents in the last fortnight, one of which resulted in a vehicle on its side.

“When you have enough minor accidents, the day is going to come when a serious one happens.”

The intersection has received attention from a number of politicians in recent years, but there has yet to be any change.

“It’s been running for three years, this campaign,” Cr Marsh said.

“We’ve had a number of stakeholders on board, which have been Jon Gee, Nick Champion, we’ve had Tom Koutsantonis, the former (transport and infrastructure) minister Stephan Knoll and John
Dawkins.

“We’ve had a lot of strong, influential, heavyweight MPs who come out and know about this.

“To date, what we’ve achieved; the community achieved the largest change and that is sending a community message out that it’s a painful, notorious intersection.

“The former minister Knoll listened and actioned the lowering of the speed limit on Heaslip Road.

“But I’ve put in a couple of requests to council about Curtis Road and they’ve chosen not to as they see it as a rural road.”

The upgrade to Curtis-Heaslip Road would be a roundabout rather than the T-intersection it is currently, and Cr Marsh is urging action to happen sooner rather than later.

“The message from the community and myself to the state and federal governments is we accept the roundabout to be put here, what we don’t accept is why the funding is being withheld and not being released earlier,” he said.

“We’ve had (about) 30 to 40 accidents.

“I’ve been asking for when the construction works would be installed.”
