THE Barossa, Light & Gawler combined tennis season gets under way this weekend, with teams set to battle it out for the division one premiership.
Xavier Saints representative Jayne Polito and Gawler & District Tennis Association
(GDTA) president Rebecca Leo said there is plenty to look forward to throughout the summer.
“Trinity has put in a senior team in division three, and Two Wells has put in two senior teams this year,” Mrs Polito said.
“We’ve established a new website, we’ve got a quiz night coming up in November, there’s plenty of things coming up.”
Mrs Polito added the winter season, which recently concluded, was a massive success.
“Winter finished almost a month ago,” she said.
“We had 30 to 40 kids on a Friday night competing in division one and two, which was a really great atmosphere.
“A lot of new kids came out and played, which was great.
“We promote lots of things going on out here for juniors and seniors.
“Lots of seniors that haven’t played for a number of years are coming back and playing, or they’re seeing their kids at junior level and they’re giving it a go.”
The GDTA is running a number of programs for juniors involving schools, but there’s also some fitness-based activities too.
“We have HIIT tennis, you don’t need experience,” Mrs Polito said.
“It’s fitness and tennis, it’s a bit like a tennis boot camp and it’s on Thursday nights from seven till eight.
“There’s also a school sporting event on November 12 where schools from around the region will come and compete in a little red ball comp during the day.
“Immanuel and Trinity will be involved, but we’d love more to get involved.”
