Everyone’s chasing Angaston
2 min read

WITH Angaston looking like the clear favourite to take out the Barossa & Light Bowling Association’s Saturday division one competition, Freeling’s nice home win on the weekend put itself right in the middle of the ‘best of the rest’ discussion.
Entering the fixture with a 1-2 record, Freeling had the second-worst shot differential in the league up until round five, before a convincing 102-81 triumph against the visiting Lyndoch.
The home side drew won rink, and won the remaining three, with the best performance coming from the four of Kevin Oliver, Lincoln Goedecke, Ian McFarlane and led by Trevor Heinjus, winning its rink 29-16.
While it moved its unblemished record to 5-0, Angaston got a bit of a scare when Nuriootpa rolled into town, but the hosts escaped unscathed with a 93-88 final score.
Nuri must’ve felt it was a chance after Aaron Jones’ four took a hard-fought 29-23 rink, but it would be the only frame the visitors would take as Angaston won the remaining three by six shots, three shots and two shots.
Eudunda are division one’s only remaining winless side after a 26-shot home loss against Kapunda.
The home four of Michael Rees, Judith Milde, Preston Eva and Chris Jones won its rink 26-17 to give their side a nice platform, but the remaining three frames were all taken comfortably by the visitors, including a 14-32 win by Rusell Walker’s four to extend the final score to 76-102.
In division 2a, a monster 44-13 rink from Angaston’s Jorn Jenson-led four propelled the side to a dominant 93-52 win against Freeling and extended its unbeaten streak to 4-0 to start the season.
Tanunda is the division’s only other team with four wins after a tight 72-68 win at Lyndoch.
Brian Koch’s four of Ted Teague, John Emerson and Kevin Gavin delivered the home side’s sole rink, while the crews skippered by Jeffrey Garrett and David Armstrong prevailed by six shots and four shots respectively.
Nuriootpa rounded out the 2a action with a convincing 88-57 win over Eudunda, taking all three rinks.
In division 2b, Angaston made a statement about its depth with another demolition job, this time pummelling Freeling 102-53 away from home.
The four of Ian Anderson, Dianne Klingner, Mike Teakle and Grant Smith did the most damage with a 37-13 frame, but the four led by Robert Koerner also took its rink by 18 shots in an all-round excellent performance.
In division three, Nuriootpa extended its lead atop the ladder after wiping Eudunda off the green by a score of 80-32.
Nuri took all three rinks by double-digit shots, and now looks like its only real competition for the division three crown will be Angaston – which it lost to by one shot last week.
