Evanston Gardens OTR set for 2020 finish date

SERVICE station giant OTR is expecting construction of its new multi-purpose station at Evanston Gardens to be completed by the middle of next year.

As reported in The Bunyip earlier this month, OTR parent company Peregrine Corporation has purchased a parcel of land on the corner of Angle Vale Road and Jack Cooper Drive with the intention to develop a large service station.

The land cost the company $1.31 million, with the proposed development set to feature more than 80 car parks and space for “affiliated retail/services”.

OTR business development manager Phil Moir said the purchase of the land is still being finalised, but expected the station to be open in2020.

“A site environmental assessment is under way and we anticipate we will have a Development Application with the council in early July,” he said.

“From this point, it will take approximately four months to finalise and we would hope to commence the build shortly thereafter, with an estimated build time of 26 weeks, opening in 2020.

“This exciting new OTR development will offer the ultimate in convenience to make life easier for the community, with all services open 24/7 including locally-roasted, barista-made coffee, a carefully curated range of supermarket essentials, fuel, and other market-leading brands.

“The development will create new jobs for the community during construction, and when the site opens it will create further ongoing retail positions.”

A competitive sale process meant the land was purchased for more than the independent evaluation Gawler Council had received prior to the land.

The settlement date of the land sale is June 30, with revenue from the sale forecasted in last year’s Gawler Council budget.

Gawler mayor Karen Redman expected the new service station to be an economic boost for the area.

“Should the proposed OTR service station be developed at this site, it will provide a number of additional employment opportunities and will provide services not currently provided in the Evanston Gardens area,” she said.

“The 2018/19 council budget includes forecast revenue from the sale of land, which has been incorporated into the council’s financial position.

“The proceeds will be used to part fund council’s capital works program and/or reduce debt.”
