ELIZABETH Oval will host Playford Council’s 2021 Australia Day celebrations as we prepare to go into the new year with the COVID-19 pandemic still lingering.

Playford Mayor Glenn Docherty said with COVID changes and restrictions, the move to Elizabeth Oval made sense.

“The City of Playford is very proud to be hosting Australia Day celebrations again,” he said.

“We’re very excited about that.

“It’s limited to 2500 people, still subject to the COVID Management Plan.

“We’d have many of the things we’d have at our traditional Australia Day event, kicking off with our community breakfast at 8am, as always provided by Lions and Rotary Club volunteers.

“We have Andrew ‘Cosi’ Costello, a legend of South Australia, hosting once again.”

The 2021 theme for Australia Day will be sport, and being at the home of Central District Football Club, Mayor Docherty is expecting plenty of involvement from the local sporting organisaitons.

“For our 2021 theme, we’ll be having sport, as we’re at Elizabeth Oval, so there’ll be some opportunities with Central District, netball, tennis, cricket for those who come down,” he said.

The ceremonies and awards will be hosted on the oval itself, and it will be broken up into different sections.

“Our plan is to meet with SA Health, so we’ll have the oval broken up into different sections for the day,” he said.

“Bring some water, a hat and sunscreen and look after yourselves.”
