Eagles dent Tigers’ chances

UNITED’S finals hopes were dented on Saturday as it lost to Hummocks-Watchman by 41 points in Adelaide Plains A-grade football.

The Tigers were held scoreless for the first term, as the top of the table Eagles surged to a 24-point quarter-time lead.

United hit back hard in the second stanza, kicking 2.6 to the Eagles’ two goals and cutting the deficit to 18 points.

However, the ladder leaders rallied and kicked away to a 41-point lead at three-quarter-time and weren’t headed again.

Jordan Bailey, Joe Murdock and Josh Studham each kicked three majors for the Eagles, while Adrian Mills kicked two of the Tigers’ three goals.

Meanwhile, Two Wells inflicted more pain on Hamley Bridge in a 233-point drubbing.

The Roosters kicked a remarkable 13 goals in the second quarter to extend their 33-point quarter-time lead out to 111 points at the main change.

The Bombers only added one more goal after half-time, while the Roosters kicked a further 20.

Caleb Edmead finished with a lazy 12 snags, while Matt Camplin booted nine.

Ned Seccafien and Josh Pellizzari kicked four goals each as Two Wells earned a massive percentage boost.

For Hamley Bridge, Brad Claxton kicked its two goals.

Elsewhere, Mallala smashed Angle Vale by 93 points.

The Owls were in the game at half-time and trailed by only 17 points.

From then, it was all about the Magpies as they kicked 8.7 to nothing in the third quarter to blow the margin out to 72 points.

They then added a further four goals to one in the final stanza to run out comfortable winners.

Angus Bruggemann, Troy Algar and Lachlan O’Leary all kicked three goals for the victors.

For the Owls, Brad Woodward led the way up forward with three majors, while Jay Rathmann and Isaiah Glancey kicked two each.

In the remaining match, Balaklava easily accounted for Virginia by 46 points.

The Rams were initially on top, and led by four points at quarter-time.

However, the momentum swung heavily in the Peckers’ direction as they kicked eight unanswered goals to lead by 46 points at half-time.

Virginia then held Balaklava scoreless in the third quarter, but could only kick three goals, cutting the deficit to 28 points.

Shane Moss was massive for the Peckers with six majors, while Jason McPharlin and Sam Michael chipped in with two each. For the Rams, Brendon Niklaus and Tyson Panagiotou slotted two goals each.
