A MAN has been arrested for drug trafficking following a major police operation at MacDonald Park on Friday.

At around 11am, Northern District police, along with the Security Response Section (SRS) and the Special Tasks and Rescue (STAR) group attended an Elwood Road property after being contacted in regards to the welfare of a person reportedly inside the home.

Police also received unconfirmed reports of a firearm possibly inside the premises.

Elwood Road, as well as its surrounding streets, were cordoned off, with road spikes deployed and armed police stationed at each road block.

SRS and STAR group forces and a police negotiator attended the scene throughout the early afternoon.

Just after 2.30pm, a man and a woman exited the premises without incident and spoke to police, where no offences were disclosed.

Detectives then searched the property and while no firearm was located, police uncovered around 7kg of cannabis and hydroponic equipment in the rear shed.

A 45-year-old MacDonald Park man was then reported for trafficking a commercial quantity of a controlled drug and possessing proscribed equipment. He was summonsed to appear in court at a later date.
