A 25-YEAR-OLD woman has been charged following a serious crash at Gawler East last Thursday.

Just before 12.45am on December 3, Barossa patrols attempted to stop a Mitsubishi Lancer on Gozzard Street at Gawler East however the car refused to stop and it was last seen heading north on Duffield Street.

The car was pursued for a short time before the patrol terminated due to safety reasons.

Minutes later the patrol located the Lancer crashed into a Stobie pole on Daly Street.  The driver fled the scene.

A 16-year-old girl of no fixed address, seated in the rear passenger seat, suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to the Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

A 21-year-old man from no fixed address, who was also a passenger, suffered minor injuries and was taken to the Lyell McEwin Hospital where he was treated.

Daly Street was closed during the investigation and clean-up, with Metropolitan Fire Service called to assist.

Police had serious concerns for the welfare of the driver, fearing she may have also suffered serious injuries due to the damage to the driver’s side of the vehicle.

Major Crash Officers arrested and charged the 25-year-old woman of no fixed address with two counts of causing harm by dangerous driving, leaving the scene of an accident after causing harm and driving dangerously to escape police pursuit.

She did not apply for bail and was expected to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Monday.
