ARTISTS are being encouraged to submit their entries for the 2019 Kidman Art Show in Kapunda before this Friday’s deadline.

The show, which has been running biennially for 12 years, is an initiative of the Rotary Club of Kapunda and Kapunda Community Gallery and will take place across six days in late October.

Stuart Hoerisch, who is a regular exhibitor at the event, has again been busy creating artwork, but said he has gone away from the textural pieces he has entered in the past.

“While still keeping with my interest in minimalism and abstraction, two of these paintings could be seen as somewhat literal when compared to most of my other works,” he said.

“In ‘Serenity at Tailem Bend’, for example, you can see the grey waters of the Murray, the orange cliffs and cloudy evening sky.

“Some of my other paintings can be quite ambiguous.”

Committee chair Frank Ware said organisers were looking forward to receiving entries for this year’s show.

“We once again expect high quality exhibits,” he said.

“The works will once again showcase the talented artists we have locally and across the regions.”

Judges for this year’s show will be acclaimed visual artist and sculptor Gerhard Ritter and experienced photographer Brian Forgan.

Kapunda Community Gallery representative Maxine Donald said the show helped the gallery to promote the arts locally, and gave artists a chance to establish themselves.

“Each year that the show is run we see a range of artistic works from both established and emerging artists,” she said.

“It is exciting to see the extent of creativity that the artists present and we also look forward to receiving the works of first-time exhibitors this year.”

The Kidman Art Show opening event will be held on Friday night, October 25 in the Kapunda Soldier’s Memorial Hall, with public tickets available from the Kapunda Visitor Centre or Kapunda Post Office.

The show will then be open daily from 10am-4pm until Wednesday October 30, when it will close at 2.30pm.
