Dogs stage incredible comeback
1 min read

CENTRAL District overcame a 29-point half-time deficit to stun Woodville-West Torrens by 23 points in SANFL action at Maughan Thiem KIA Oval on Sunday.

The Eagles went into the game as heavy favourites, and they got off to the perfect start through Chris Hall at the four-minute mark.

Fraser Fort responded with a goal for Central, but the Eagles again regained the lead through Port Adelaide father-son prospect Jackson Mead.

Kyle Jenner kicked another for the Dogs before ex-Adelaide Crow Jared Petrenko ensured his Eagles led by two points at quarter-time.

It was all Woodville-West Torrens in the second stanza, as Jack Hayes kicked two majors, Nick Hayes and Angus Poole one, and Petrenko his second.

The only response from the Dogs was Fort’s second, but they trailed by 29 points at the main break.

Central was staring down the barrel of its 12th loss of the season, but unleashed a bombardment of goals at the restart of play.

Fort booted his third, which was then followed up by Jenner’s second to cut the margin to 16 points.

The belief then flowed through the Central line-up as Travis Schiller, Troy Menzel, Jarrod Schiller and Willaston product Ethan East all kicked majors to turn the 29-point deficit into a 13-point three-quartertime lead.

Things got tight early in the final quarter, as Seb Guilhaus and Nick Moore converted to level the scores, but it was the Dogs’ day.

East kicked three final-quarter goals, while Nick Gillard and Nick Madden also piled on the pain.

Travis Schiller had 30 touches on top of his goal, while brother Jarrod was again instrumental with 28 and 11 clearances.

East finished with four majors, nine tackles and 17 disposals in a terrific individual effort.
