Dogs cruise through to decider

BAROSSA District flexed its muscle to book its place in next week’s Barossa, Light & Gawler under 15 grand final as it destroyed Tanunda by 10 goals in the second semi-final on Saturday.

The Bulldogs and Magpies both lost just one game throughout the home and away season, but it didn’t seem that way on the weekend as the former ran riot from the get go.

Barossa kicked the opening two goals of the game to lead by 14 points at the first change, and Tanunda was unable to do any damage on the scoreboard.

The Magpies soon found the big sticks with two goals in the second quarter, courtesy of Will McCabe and Jack Collins.

However, that would be their only goals of the match.

The Bulldogs had extended their lead to 22 points at the main change, and showed no signs of slowing down.

Will O’Brien, Austin McDonald and Kyan Bovingdon were finding plenty of the pill, while under 15 best and fairest Liam Tappert was at his devastating best.

The Dogs were wasteful but dominant in the third stanza, kicking 2.5 to the Pies’ one behind to lead by 38 points at the final break.

Barossa finished off the rout with three goals in the last quarter and held the Pies scoreless again to easily make its way into the grand final.

O’Brien slotted three goals, while McDonald and Bovingdon kicked two apiece.

Lions roar

South Gawler put together a terrific defensive display to defeat Gawler Central by 20 points in the first semi-final on Sunday.

The Tigers kicked the opening goal of the game, and led by that sole goal at the first change, holding the Lions goalless up to quarter-time.

However, South found its way into the match in the second term, kicking 2.3 while holding the Tigers scoreless to lead by nine points at halftime.

It was a scrappy game, and South’s lead narrowly extended at the final break to 13 points, but it looked far from safe.

Yet, the Lions played better in the final quarter, slotting two goals to one, to book their place in the preliminary final.

Lochie Riggs kicked two majors for South as the only multiple goal-kicker, while Will Tligi played a good game for the Tigers.
