COVID cancels Pioneer Park event
1 min read

THE decision to cancel the Gawler Carols has coincided with a similar announcement from a local Rotary Club in regards to the Gawler Village Fair.

Rotary Club of Gawler president Mark Smeaton has confirmed the cancellation of the 2020 event, formerly planned for Saturday, November 7, at Pioneer Park.

“The Village Fair has been a fantastic community event that our club along with support from Gawler Light has been proud to support, so it was an extremely difficult decision to make but we didn’t want to pose any risk to our community,” Mr Smeaton said.

Gawler Mayor Karen Redman said she commended the Rotary Club of Gawler on what would have been a very difficult decision.

“The Gawler Village Fair is a much-loved event for Gawler and traditionally provides an excellent opportunity for all community groups to connect with the general community and each other,” she said.

“Even so, we are in very challenging times so again I commend the club on their leadership at this time.”

The Gawler Rotary Club has convened the annual Gawler Village Fair for nearly 45 years.

The Fair joins a significant number of other local events to be cancelled in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic, including the Freeling and Kapunda Christmas street parties, Gawler Relay for Life, and the Gawler Show.
